What a Keratin Treatment Does to Curls
A smoothing treatment coats the hair and is sealed with heat, which relaxes the shape of the strand. On curly and wavy hair that means the pattern loosens, volume drops and frizz is reduced. How much depends on three things: your natural curl, the product, and how the hair is flat-ironed during the treatment.
It is not permanent. The effect fades gradually as you wash, and the hair that grows in afterward has your natural texture.

Smooth or Straight? It Is Largely Technique
The same product can give a softer, wavier result or a straight one. Fewer passes of the flat iron and slightly thicker sections keep more movement; thin sections and thorough ironing give a straighter finish. Will My Curls Come Back?
As the treatment fades and new hair grows, your texture returns. Be aware, though, that high heat can change a curl pattern on its own: hair that has been flat-ironed heavily may stay looser or become irregular until it grows out. - Condition at every wash and use a mask weekly.
- Apply styling products to very wet hair and let curls dry undisturbed.
